WHAT WE ARE WORKING ON…

EXPAND THE FLEET

We have a list of boats we want to work with based on the impact they have when they fish sharks. Successful employment of these boats would create guaranteed income for 40-50 fisherman, and remove a further six boats from fishing for targeted and vulnerable shark species.

A WATER TANK

Project Man (arabic for water) will commence very soon with our partners at the Reece foundation. The goal? To provide access to clean drinking water through the collection and sanitisation of natural rainwater. The project takes place on the island where the fishermen work. The access to drinking water is a basic right of any child at school, and it’s something they currently do not have.

shark research

There is absolutely no published data on tiger sharks here. Embedding of conservation and Research in areas of heathy sharks is not our goal- more research is needed in countries where fisheries are unmanaged and sharks are targeted, countries like Indonesia. We have our eyes set on replicating this mission and placing more tags in the near future, this time travelling further and having more time to seek heavily fished areas.

education

From the instillation of air-conditioning units to the introduction of English lessons, in every small way we can, we are attempting to improve the conditions & broaden the curriculum for the school of fishermen island. This means more opportunities for the youth than fishing and providing the basic comforts most schools have.

waste management

Utilising shark fishing boats for transport, we want to begin collecting waste & transporting it to local recycling facilities that create income opportunities. This was in place before covid hit, putting a halt to our operations. We want to start the program again!

more scholarships

WHY? Because paying for education is a motivation to fish sharks & receiving education is a way out of fishing sharks- so we are investing in the future! Our students will be selected based on their involvement or relationship to the shark fin trade and generations of fishermen… we have two currently enrolled and want to have more.

The way you SAVE SHARKS can make all the difference.
